Approximate area of image: 15 x 15 km. Elevations range from 300 to 2000 meters. Vertical scale is exaggerated. Lowest pointer is Dongshi business district. The two pointers are to Dajia River. Ground cover is mostly orchards and forests. ( image source was from now gone URL in gps.moi.gov.tw)
Now zooming in on the bend in the river (68 kb). 10 x 10 km. area approximately, Looking southeast across Dajia River from Dongshi Township into Xinshe and Heping Villages. Dan lives in the square. We are looking along Highway 8 from km. 8 to 19 approximately. There are two pools in the river bed associated with the Maan power plant. White areas are river sands and rooftops; black is mountain shadows.
Now looking nearly straight down (80 kb). Top is east. Looking east along Dajia River. Dan lives in the square. Toward the top of the image one km. is Heping Village government office and houses, appearing as white streaks. The other white areas are the sands of the Dajia River. In the extreme left bottom corner is the junction of Qingfu St. with Highway 8, from there to the upper right corner of this image is approximately 8 km. Perhaps the population of this photo is 3000? Mostly orchards.
These are taken hundreds of kilometers up by the French SPOT satellite, then adjusted to one's favorite angles and elevation. A friend at NCU Center For Space and Remote Sensing Research made them for me, year ~= 2000
